A Ilha do Esqueleto

Many readers found this installment to be an incredibly engaging and thrilling experience, often describing it as unputdownable. Alex, the protagonist, continues to be a compelling character, praised for his wit, sass, and growing emotional depth, which allows readers to connect with his desire for a normal life. A standout element for many was the nuanced portrayal of the villain, who is lauded for having a realistic complexity and emotional layers beyond typical antagonists. The book is celebrated for its action-packed sequences, vivid descriptions that make the settings and events feel real, and surprising twists that keep the heart pounding. Its cinematic quality, with scenes that read like a movie or video game, also contributed to its widespread appeal, making it a fun and exciting read that some consider the best in the series so far.

Despite the praise, some reviewers expressed disappointment, feeling the book "lacked something" compared to earlier entries in the series, or even deeming it "horrible." Criticisms often centered on the plot, which some found less original or weaker, with revelations coming too early and diminishing the sense of mystery. A common point of contention was the perceived unrealistic nature of a fourteen-year-old repeatedly escaping perilous situations where adults fail. Pacing was also an issue for some, with the first half described as slow or boring before the main storyline gained momentum. Content concerns were noted regarding occasional profanity, references to suggestive attire in beach settings, and the introduction of a new female character whose potential romantic role was seen by some as an unwelcome departure from the spy genre's focus.

Overall, this book offers a mixed but generally positive experience, proving to be an exciting and emotionally richer addition to the series for many, while others found it less impactful than its predecessors. It is widely recommended for young adult readers, typically ages 9-15, who enjoy fast-paced spy adventures, intricate action sequences, and a protagonist who grapples with the demands of his extraordinary life. Older readers who appreciate easy, thrilling reads and character development may also find it enjoyable. Those seeking a deeper exploration of Alex's internal world and a more complex villain will likely be satisfied, though readers prioritizing a tightly woven mystery or a strictly action-focused narrative without romantic undertones might have reservations.
