Absolute Beginner's Guide To Computer Basics

The book is widely praised as an exceptionally easy-to-understand and well-rounded resource, especially for absolute beginners. Reviewers highlight its ability to start from the very basics, explaining computer components and functions step-by-step in everyday English. It offers reassuring guidance, dispelling fears about damaging the computer, and provides practical information on popular topics like security, software, and social media. Many appreciate the lists of resources for making tech choices, finding it an effective "ice breaker" for those overwhelmed by technology. It has also been successfully adopted as a textbook in educational settings, with students finding it beneficial.

The primary limitation noted by reviewers is that the book is based on Windows 7 technology. While this was suitable for its time, it means the content may be outdated for users with more current operating systems. Additionally, some reviewers point out that while the book excels at providing foundational knowledge, readers may need to consult supplementary resources for more in-depth troubleshooting information.

Overall, this book is highly regarded as an excellent guide for individuals who are completely new to computers or feel overwhelmed by technology. Its strength lies in its clear, accessible language and its comprehensive coverage of fundamental computer concepts. It is ideal for those seeking to learn the very basics of computing and get started with a new machine, making it a valuable introduction to the digital world. However, prospective readers should be aware of its reliance on an older operating system and its focus on initial setup and basic understanding rather than advanced problem-solving.
