Asesinato en el Campo de Golf

Many reviewers lauded The Murder on the Links as a brilliantly written and highly entertaining mystery, with some calling it one of Agatha Christie's best. Readers were particularly impressed by the intricate, layered, and complex plot, which offers numerous twists and turns that keep them guessing until the very end. Christie's masterful storytelling ensures that she is always several steps ahead, making it a challenging and satisfying puzzle for those who enjoy a true whodunit. The dynamic between Hercule Poirot and his faithful, if sometimes bewildered, companion Captain Hastings was frequently praised as charming and endearing, with Poirot's "little grey cells" shining through. The characterization was noted as fantastic, especially for an early work in the series, and many found the narrative refreshing and engaging, making it a quick and captivating read.

Despite its many strengths, some reviewers expressed reservations, primarily concerning the character of Captain Hastings, whose narration and perceived dimwittedness proved annoying or even exasperating for several readers. A few found the pacing to be slower than expected, making it difficult to stay fully engrossed, and some felt the characters, while numerous, lacked emotional depth or felt overly dramatic. There was also occasional disappointment regarding the title, with some expecting a golf-centric plot rather than a murder merely occurring on a golf course under construction. While most found the mystery to be complex, a minority of readers surprisingly managed to deduce some of the plot twists or even the culprit, which is unusual for a Christie novel. Additionally, a touch of "insta-love" and sentimentality in the story was noted as cringe-worthy by some.

Overall, The Murder on the Links is considered a solid and important installment in the Hercule Poirot series, showcasing Agatha Christie's ingenious plotting and her enduring impact on the mystery genre. While some found it less captivating or slightly too complex, the general consensus is that it is a clever, well-constructed, and highly recommended golden age mystery. It is especially suited for dedicated fans of Hercule Poirot and those following the series, as it features significant character development, particularly for Hastings, and establishes the enduring charm of the detective duo. Readers who enjoy intricate, multi-layered mysteries with a classic feel and a focus on intellectual deduction will likely find this an enjoyable and rewarding read.
