Asesinos sin rostro

On a freezing January morning in rural Sweden, Inspector Kurt Wallander is called to an isolated farmhouse where an elderly couple has been brutally attacked. Johannes Lövgren is found tortured to death, and his wife Maria is left to die with a noose around her neck. Before she succumbs, Maria utters a single word: "foreign." This fragmented clue is leaked to the press, igniting a wave of racial tension and anti-immigrant sentiment across the country, forcing Wallander to confront not only a double murder but also the escalating threat of vigilante violence.

As Wallander, a detective grappling with a recent divorce and personal turmoil, delves into the investigation, he uncovers secrets about the victims that complicate the initial assumption of a racially motivated crime. The case becomes a meticulous and unglamorous procedural, where Wallander navigates dead ends and bureaucratic friction while the political landscape around him grows increasingly volatile. This novel presents a stark portrayal of a society grappling with fear and prejudice, inviting readers to experience a complex police investigation intertwined with profound social commentary.
