Award Puzzles: The Napping House

In a house, a napping house, where everyone was sleeping, lay a cozy bed. It was a rainy afternoon, and the world outside was hushed and gray, perfect for slumber. Upon that soft, warm bed, a granny lay, deeply asleep and snoring. Her snores filled the quiet room with a gentle rhythm.

Soon, a child, dreaming, climbed onto the bed and settled right on top of the snoring granny. The child, too, fell into a deep sleep, nestled against the warmth of the granny. And still, in that house, that napping house, everyone was sleeping.

Then came a dozing dog, who, finding the piled-up granny and child, curled up on top of the dreaming child. The dog let out soft, contented sighs as it drifted off. And still, in that house, that napping house, everyone was sleeping.

A snoozing cat then joined the growing pile. With a graceful leap, the cat found its spot on top of the dozing dog, kneading gently before settling into its own quiet snooze. And still, in that house, that napping house, everyone was sleeping.

Next arrived a slumbering mouse, tiny and soft, who crept onto the very top of the snoozing cat. The mouse, too, closed its eyes, adding to the layers of peaceful sleep. And still, in that house, that napping house, everyone was sleeping.

But then, a wakeful flea, tiny and nimble, hopped onto the slumbering mouse. This flea, unlike all the others, was not sleepy at all. It was wakeful.

And then, the wakeful flea bit the slumbering mouse! The mouse, startled, jumped, which woke the snoozing cat. The cat, surprised, sprang up, waking the dozing dog. The dog, startled by the cat, barked, waking the dreaming child. The child, wide-eyed, bounced, waking the snoring granny.

With a groan and a stretch, the granny sat up, and with a great heave, the cozy bed broke! Suddenly, no one was sleeping in that house. The rain had stopped, and the sun, bright and golden, streamed through the windows, casting a warm glow on the now-awake household.
