Be Useful

The book is widely praised for its highly motivating and inspiring tone, offering valuable life lessons drawn directly from the author's extraordinary career across various fields. Many reviewers highlight the engaging and often humorous narrative, which uses personal anecdotes to illustrate practical advice. A significant number of readers strongly recommend the audiobook, emphasizing that the author's distinctive voice and conversational style, complete with occasional personal touches, significantly enhance the listening experience and make the content feel more immediate and personal. The straightforwardness of the "seven tools for life" is appreciated by those seeking clear, actionable guidance, reinforcing the timeless value of hard work, a clear vision, and resilience. Readers also note the book's underlying message of social responsibility and the importance of community in achieving success, moving beyond purely individualistic goals.

Despite its motivating aspects, some reviewers found the book's advice to be overly simplistic, describing it as common sense or "Boomer advice" that offers little new insight to the self-help genre. Critics pointed to a perceived lack of empathy for individuals facing significant limitations, citing instances where the author's extreme work ethic and personal advantages were presented without sufficient acknowledgment of diverse life circumstances. A recurring sentiment among some readers was that the book leaned too heavily into self-promotion, focusing on the author's impressive achievements rather than purely on universal guidance. Additionally, elements of the narrative were occasionally described as scattered or repetitive, and a few reviewers expressed discomfort with certain political or personal opinions mentioned within the text.

Overall, the book is generally regarded as an entertaining and energizing read, particularly for those who appreciate the author's public persona and unique life story. It serves as a strong source of motivation for readers seeking a "kick in the pants" and a reminder of fundamental principles for pursuing ambitious goals. This book would especially appeal to fans of the author, individuals looking for direct and uncomplicated advice on self-improvement, and those who enjoy memoirs that blend personal history with inspirational messages. However, readers expecting profound, nuanced psychological insights or a deep dive into self-help theory might find the content less groundbreaking and more akin to a personal narrative of achievement.
