The book is widely celebrated as an incredibly inspiring and deeply moving true story of perseverance, resilience, and determination. Readers were captivated by the raw, first-hand account of the author's journey from a war-torn country to seeking refuge, finding it to be an eye-opening narrative that offers significant insight into the immense challenges faced by refugees. Reviewers consistently highlighted the author's courage, ambition, and humility, along with her unwavering dedication to swimming and her family, particularly her sister, who receives well-deserved recognition throughout the story. The narrative is frequently described as engaging, readable, and powerful, effectively conveying the vital message that refugees are ordinary people forced into extraordinary circumstances. Many appreciate how the book provides a voice for the voiceless, aiming to change perceptions and foster compassion, making it a timely and important read for a global audience.

Despite its strengths, some reviewers noted a few areas for improvement. A common observation was that the writing style, while honest and direct, could at times feel simple or lack a deeper emotional or literary sophistication. The narrative occasionally struck some as naive or somewhat choppy, which was attributed to the author's youth and the challenge of condensing many complex years of experience into a single account. A few readers expressed a desire for more depth on the broader refugee crisis, feeling that the author's relatively privileged background (compared to many other refugees) meant the story didn't fully represent the vast spectrum of challenges faced by all. Additionally, there was minor feedback that the book's central message, while profoundly important, became somewhat repetitive at certain points in the narrative.

Overall, the book is regarded as a powerful and essential read, earning high recommendations for its inspirational true story of triumph over adversity. It offers a unique and deeply personal perspective on the refugee experience, aiming to foster greater understanding and compassion among readers. This memoir is particularly well-suited for individuals interested in narratives of human resilience, current global issues, and stories that challenge existing perceptions, encouraging them to reflect on the plight of refugees and potentially inspire action on their behalf. It is recommended for anyone seeking a compelling and thought-provoking account of courage, survival, and the pursuit of dreams against impossible odds.
