COVID-19

Reviewers praise the book as an insightful and well-written analysis of current global trends and potential future scenarios in the wake of the pandemic. It is described by some as an exceptional work offering a brilliant prognosis across economic, societal, geopolitical, environmental, and technological domains. Many find it to be an intellectually honest and balanced presentation, clearly distinguishing between objective facts and the authors' perspectives. The book is seen as a compelling call for a re-evaluation of social priorities and an opportunity to foster a more inclusive, equitable, and sustainable world. Some readers appreciate its accessible style, contextual references, and its role in stimulating thought about post-pandemic changes, viewing it as a moderate, center-left piece that analyzes existing problems and potential shifts towards a greener, more resilient, and less unequal global economy.

Conversely, a substantial number of reviewers express intense disapproval, viewing the book as a blueprint for a dystopian future rather than a constructive analysis. Common criticisms include the perception that the book advocates for increased state power, mass surveillance, and a global governance model, often drawing parallels to totalitarian regimes. Many readers are concerned by what they interpret as a positive framing of the pandemic as an "opportunity" to implement radical changes, leading to accusations that the authors are exploiting the crisis for a predetermined agenda. Reviewers frequently highlight the book's perceived praise for aspects of the Chinese system, its emphasis on digital tracking, and its suggestions for greater government intervention in both economic and individual lives, including personal behaviors and travel. Critics argue that the book's proposals would diminish individual freedoms, lead to technocratic control, and facilitate a significant redistribution of wealth and power that benefits an elite rather than the general population. Some also question the accuracy of the book's scientific and economic assumptions, and its selective omission of alternative perspectives or successful non-lockdown approaches.

The overall reception of the book is highly polarized. While some reviewers see it as a moderate, thoughtful analysis of potential post-pandemic changes, many others interpret it as a stark warning or even a "manifesto" for a globalist, technocratic, and authoritarian future. The book is either lauded for its insightful prognosis and call for a more sustainable world, or condemned as an "open conspiracy" to centralize power and control. Consequently, readers who are interested in understanding the perspectives of global economic and political leaders on future trends, or those seeking to critically examine proposed societal transformations, would find this book relevant. It appeals both to those who appreciate a forward-looking discussion on global challenges and to those who approach it with skepticism, seeking to identify and understand what they perceive as a problematic agenda.
