Das Rad der Zeit 13. Das Original

The reviews for this book largely praise it as an exciting and essential entry, successfully accelerating the narrative towards the series' climax. Many readers commend Brandon Sanderson's writing for significantly improving the pacing, transforming what were sometimes slow-burning plotlines into a continuous, action-packed experience. Characters like Rand are celebrated for finally embodying their heroic roles, showing newfound calm, control, and purpose. Perrin's journey is frequently highlighted as a major positive, with reviewers noting his substantial growth, renewed strength, and acceptance of his leadership responsibilities. Mat, too, is seen as returning to his original essence, engaging in significant adventures and demonstrating surprising selflessness. Nynaeve and Egwene also receive acclaim for their impressive achievements and strategic prowess, contributing meaningfully to the unfolding events. Overall, the book is lauded for tying up numerous loose ends, answering long-standing questions, and masterfully setting the stage for the highly anticipated final installment.

Despite the widespread praise, some criticisms emerged regarding various aspects of the book. A few readers found the pacing inconsistent, with the first half feeling slow or less engaging before the action picked up. Character portrayals also drew mixed reactions; Rand's newfound perfection struck some as making him too flawless or "messianic," while Mat's inner monologue, particularly concerning women, was found by some to be repetitive, irritating, or even crude. Egwene's character, despite her achievements, was sometimes perceived as arrogant or overly focused on her own agenda. Earlier character issues, such as Perrin's self-doubt and Elayne's perceived stubbornness or use as comedic relief, continued to frustrate some readers. Additionally, a few reviewers pointed to instances of repetitive exposition, conversations that didn't advance the plot, or plot conveniences attributed to the "ta'veren" concept, which some felt detracted from the narrative's depth. The villains were sometimes described as less threatening or quiet in this installment, and certain plot developments or character interactions were deemed random or underdeveloped.

In conclusion, this book is generally considered a strong and pivotal penultimate volume that revitalizes the series for many long-time readers. It successfully balances significant character development with a propulsive plot, preparing the stage for the grand finale. While it addresses many of the pacing concerns from earlier books, some characterizations and narrative choices still proved divisive. This book would particularly appeal to dedicated fans of epic fantasy who have invested in the series and are eager to see its complex storylines converge, especially those who appreciate rapid plot progression and profound character growth leading into a major confrontation.
