The world unfurls through the eyes of David Copperfield, a boy born into a life touched by both tenderness and shadow. Their humble home in Blunderstone is a haven, a place of innocent joy and simple pleasures, particularly in the company of the Peggotty family in their boat-house by the sea, where the sturdy Mr. Peggotty, the melancholic Mrs. Gummidge, and the spirited Little Em'ly reside.

But this gentle childhood is shattered by the arrival of Mr. Murdstone, a man of stern countenance and colder heart, who marries David's mother. With him comes his equally forbidding sister, Miss Murdstone, and together they impose a harsh, unyielding regime upon the once-happy household. The insidious Uriah Heep, Agnes's former clerk, a man of false humility and cunning ambition, slowly but surely gains control over Mr. Wickfield's affairs, twisting and manipulating until he threatens to ruin them all.

David, alongside the ever-resourceful Mr. Micawber, who, in a rare moment of clarity and indignation, exposes Heep's villainy, works to unravel the web of deceit.
