De l'art de dire des conneries

The book is widely praised for its illuminating and useful exploration of a pervasive cultural phenomenon. Reviewers consistently highlight the author's clear and essential distinction between lying and bullshitting, finding it an invaluable tool for understanding contemporary discourse, particularly in politics and media. Many consider it a timely and relevant read, offering profound insights into the nature of truth, deception, and communication in modern society. Despite its academic origins, the essay is frequently described as concise, elegant, and surprisingly accessible, making complex philosophical ideas engaging and thought-provoking. Its brevity is often cited as a strength, allowing for a focused and impactful read that clarifies a concept many use but few deeply understand.

While largely appreciated, some reviewers found the book to be overly academic or dry in its execution, describing it as a "lecture" that occasionally delves into tedious wordplay. A recurring criticism is its perceived brevity; some felt it was too short and could have benefited from more examples or a deeper exploration of its concepts. Concerns were also raised about the specificity of the author's definition, with some arguing it might be too narrow to encompass all intuitive uses of the term or that certain examples didn't perfectly align with his own criteria. A few critics suggested the work itself sometimes felt like "intellectual masturbation" or even inadvertently exemplified the very concept it aimed to define, lacking practical advice on how to navigate or counter the phenomenon.

Ultimately, the book is considered a significant and thought-provoking contribution to understanding an often-overlooked aspect of human communication. Despite some academic dryness or perceived limitations in scope, its core argument regarding the distinction between lying and bullshitting is widely celebrated as profound and highly relevant. This book would appeal to readers interested in philosophy, ethics, and rhetoric, as well as anyone seeking to better understand the nuances of public discourse and the nature of truth in a complex world. It is particularly recommended for those who appreciate concise, intellectually stimulating essays that apply rigorous analysis to everyday language and societal interactions.
