Die Liebeskur.

Reviewers frequently praise the novel for its masterful and unflinching portrayal of obsessive, co-dependent, and toxic relationships. Many highlight the author's exceptional ability to delve into the psychological complexities of human emotions, particularly the destructive nature of infatuation, making the narrative feel profoundly realistic and insightful. The prose is often described as gripping, intensely immersive, and deceptively simple, drawing readers deep into the protagonist's tormented internal world. Despite the challenging subject matter, some critics found the book to be a powerful, original, and even brilliant examination of a destructive dynamic, appreciating its raw style and the emotional devastation it evokes.

Conversely, a significant number of readers found the book's excessive length and repetitive narrative to be its primary drawback. Complaints frequently mention a lack of substantial plot progression or character development throughout much of the story, leading to a sense of monotony and exhaustion. The protagonist's obsessive behavior and the relentlessly toxic nature of the relationship proved unpalatable or tiresome for some, who struggled to understand or care for the often unlikeable and one-dimensional characters. The cyclical prose and absence of chapter breaks also contributed to a feeling of being trapped or overwhelmed, with several reviewers describing the reading experience as draining, frustrating, or even pointless.

Ultimately, the novel emerges as a polarizing read, eliciting strong reactions from both admiration and frustration. While its unflinching realism and psychological depth resonated powerfully with some, its length and repetitiveness proved a significant barrier for others. The book is generally recommended for readers who appreciate intense, challenging, or 'feel-bad' literature, particularly those interested in rigorous examinations of toxic relationships and the darker aspects of human connection. It may appeal to fans of auto-fictional narratives and authors exploring similar themes of passion and obsession, such as Annie Ernaux, Jenny Erpenbeck, or Megan Nolan. However, it may not be suitable for those seeking a light read, clear narrative progression, or easily relatable characters.
