Division du crime

Reviewers consistently praise this installment as a stellar addition to the series, noting the author's ability to maintain fresh, exciting, and well-thought-out storylines even after many books. The central relationship between Eve and Roarke remains a major highlight, celebrated for its unwavering love, emotional depth, and realistic portrayal of two strong personalities navigating challenges. Readers adore their dynamic, finding it both fierce and protective, and appreciate the compelling dialogue and wicked one-liners that add humor. The book is also lauded for its engaging mystery, which is described as slick, smart, and intricate, alongside the continued development and charm of the beloved secondary characters. Many found the story deeply moving, provoking tears and highlighting significant character growth.

Despite overall high praise, some readers expressed reservations regarding certain character behaviors. Roarke's actions were sometimes perceived as irritating, with concerns raised about his tendency to insert himself into Eve's professional life or to prioritize his own emotional responses, particularly when dealing with sensitive personal history. This led to a significant conflict between the main characters, which, while ultimately resolved, left some feeling that Roarke initially lacked respect for Eve's agency. Additionally, Eve's demeanor was occasionally described as "bitchy" or having a "Really Bitchy Mouth" by a few reviewers. A minor point of critique was that the mystery's twists could be somewhat predictable for some readers, and one reviewer felt the ending was a bit rushed given the emotional build-up.

Overall, this book is considered one of the strongest in the series, often described as brilliant, outstanding, and a "must-read" by its fans. It successfully weaves together a captivating mystery with profound personal drama and relationship development, demonstrating the author's continued mastery. This book would particularly appeal to devoted followers of the "In Death" series who appreciate a complex romantic suspense narrative that doesn't shy away from deep emotional conflicts and character growth. It's ideal for readers who enjoy a futuristic police procedural setting, cherish evolving character relationships, and are drawn to stories that blend action, humor, and heartfelt moments, even if it means navigating challenging dynamics between beloved characters.
