Systematically, they sterilize these havens, weakening the Count and forcing him to flee back to his ancestral lands. As the hunters close in, Van Helsing and Mina journey to Castle Dracula, where the professor dispatches the three vampire women, purifying the ancient stronghold. Meanwhile, the others pursue Dracula, who is being transported in his final box of earth by a band of Romani. In a climactic confrontation, filled with the clash of steel and the howl of wolves, Jonathan Harker strikes the fatal blow, decapitating the Count, while Quincey Morris simultaneously plunges a knife into his heart. Dracula crumbles to dust, and with his destruction, the curse on Mina is lifted. Though Quincey Morris falls, mortally wounded in the struggle, his sacrifice ensures the triumph of light over darkness, securing the future for the living.
