El hijo. El Dador. Libro IV

In a world of meticulous order and suppressed emotion, a young girl named Claire lived her life as a Birthmother, her days dictated by the needs of the community. At the tender age of fourteen, she bore a child, a boy designated Product Thirty-six. Yet, unlike the others, Claire found herself drawn to this infant, a flicker of an unfamiliar emotion stirring within her. Due to complications during the birth, she was reassigned to the fish hatchery, but her heart yearned for the small life she had brought forth. She would steal moments at the Nurturing Center, watching him, a quiet love blossoming in her carefully controlled existence. This yearning grew into a fierce protectiveness when the child, Gabriel, was deemed "unfit" and threatened with release, a fate she knew meant oblivion.

The community, unable to contain the burgeoning emotions and memories unleashed by Jonas, began to unravel. In the chaos, Claire, driven by an instinct she barely understood, found herself aboard a cargo vessel, a desperate attempt to follow the path she believed her son had taken. The journey, however, was treacherous. A violent storm ravaged the boat, casting her into the unforgiving sea. When she washed ashore in a distant, unfamiliar village, her memory was a blank slate, her past a void.

The kind, seafaring people who discovered her, calling her "Water Claire," took her in. An old midwife, Alys, became her surrogate mother, patiently guiding her through the simple rhythms of their life. As Claire assisted Alys with other births, fragmented memories began to surface, like scattered pieces of a forgotten dream. The sensation of childbirth, the profound connection to an infant, stirred a deep, aching sense of loss within her. Slowly, agonizingly, the truth returned: she had a son, and he was gone.

A fierce determination ignited within her, a primal need to find the child she had loved. This new village, nestled beneath an imposing, unclimbable cliff, presented an insurmountable barrier. Yet, a crippled man named Einar, who had once scaled the very same precipice, became her unlikely mentor. For years, Claire trained her body and spirit, her resolve hardening with each arduous step, each aching muscle. Einar, too, found a renewed purpose in her quest, and a quiet affection grew between them amidst the wind-swept heights.

When the time came, Claire embarked on the perilous climb, leaving Einar and the village behind. At the summit, she encountered the sinister Trademaster, a figure of malevolent power who preyed on human desire and weakness. To gain the knowledge of her son's whereabouts, Claire made an unimaginable sacrifice, trading her youth for the truth. In an instant, the vibrant woman was transformed into an old one, her body withered, but her spirit unbroken, fueled by the unwavering hope of reunion.

Her journey led her to a vibrant, colorful community, a stark contrast to her origins. There, she observed a boy, now a young man, who possessed a familiar spark, a deep curiosity and a powerful gift. It was Gabriel, her son, now grown, living with Jonas and his family. Claire watched him from a distance, hesitant to reveal herself, fearing he would not recognize the aged woman who was his mother.

But the Trademaster's shadow loomed large over this new world, subtly corrupting and manipulating its inhabitants. Gabriel, now known as Gabe, sensed the malevolent presence and, with Jonas's guidance, prepared to confront it. In a climactic showdown, it was Gabe, embodying pure goodness and strength, who ultimately faced the entity that sought to diminish and control. Through his courage and the enduring power of love, the Trademaster was defeated, and the community was freed from its insidious influence. Claire, finally reunited with her son, her sacrifice understood, found solace in the warmth of their connection, a testament to a mother's unending devotion.
