El mensajero. Libro III. The Giver

Reviewers offered a mixed but passionate response to this third installment of the series. Many appreciated its role in connecting the narratives of previous books, offering glimpses of familiar characters and providing some answers that fans had sought regarding their fates. The main character, Matty, was often praised for his compelling development, showcasing a blend of strength and gentleness that resonated with readers. The book's allegorical depth was frequently highlighted, with themes such as immigration, societal corruption, materialism, and the value of kindness over superficial desires found to be particularly relevant and thought-provoking. For some, the narrative was deeply engrossing and a fast-paced read, leading to a powerful and emotionally impactful conclusion that left them contemplating its messages long after finishing.

Despite these strengths, a significant number of reviewers expressed considerable frustration, primarily due to numerous unresolved plotlines and a perceived lack of explanation for central mysteries. Many felt that key elements, such as the nature and origins of the "Trademart" and the changing characteristics of the surrounding "Forest," were left ambiguous. Critics also pointed to inconsistencies in world-building and a jarring shift towards more fantastical elements compared to earlier books. Some found the pacing to be slow or boring for much of the story, while others described the ending as abrupt, anticlimactic, or ultimately unsatisfactory because the core problems remained unaddressed. For some devoted fans of the initial book in the series, this installment was considered the weakest, failing to deliver the desired emotional or logical resolution.

Overall, this book elicits a deeply divided response among readers. While it offers a continuation for those invested in the series' characters and overarching themes, its narrative ambiguities and unresolved elements proved to be a significant drawback for many. Readers who appreciate allegorical storytelling and are willing to engage with complex moral questions, even without explicit answers, may find the book's messages profound and moving. However, those seeking clear-cut plot resolutions, consistent world-building, or a straightforward continuation of the previous stories might experience disappointment. It is best suited for young adult readers interested in thought-provoking dystopian allegories, particularly those who are prepared for an emotionally challenging experience that prioritizes thematic depth over complete narrative closure.
