El secreto de la momia

Reviewers largely praise this installment in the Magic Tree House series for its engaging and adventurous plot set in ancient Egypt, which many found to be an improvement over previous books. Readers appreciate the solid storytelling, intriguing mysteries, and the element of surprise and suspense that keeps them captivated. The book is lauded for introducing young readers to fascinating historical concepts like pyramids, hieroglyphs, and mummies in an accessible and often educational way, while also expanding their vocabulary. Many adults revisiting the book express strong feelings of nostalgia, recalling how the series sparked their love for reading and proving entertaining even for older readers. The main characters, Jack and Annie, are noted for their likability and resourcefulness in solving an archaeological mystery.

Despite the overall positive reception, some reviewers point out specific criticisms. A recurring concern is the author's frequent use of sentence fragments, which several readers found distracting, amateurish, and even "egregious." While the book aims to be educational, some wished for greater historical accuracy, particularly regarding certain characters or events, and felt the historical details could be vague. A few readers expressed discomfort with some of the content, describing certain descriptions of mummies as "gruesome" or "creepy," potentially exceeding the target age group. The inclusion of supernatural elements like a ghost queen was also a point of contention for some, who preferred a purely historical focus for the series. Additionally, a minor criticism noted the book's brevity, making it a very quick read.

Overall, "Mummies in the Morning" is generally considered a charming and exciting adventure that successfully blends history with fantasy. It stands out as a memorable entry in the series for many, often praised for its ability to draw children into the world of reading and spark an interest in ancient history. This book is particularly well-suited for young readers transitioning to chapter books, as well as families looking for an engaging read-aloud experience. It will appeal to those who enjoy lighthearted adventures, mild mysteries, and a touch of fantasy woven into historical settings, especially fans of ancient Egypt. However, readers sensitive to supernatural themes or who prefer a more sophisticated writing style with strict historical accuracy might find some aspects less appealing.
