Evita

The reviews indicate that the inherent interest of Eva Perón's life is a significant strength of this graphic biography. Readers appreciated that the book provides an informative overview of her complex life, social activism, and political career. The narrative is noted for attempting to craft a nuanced portrait, exploring various facets of her public and private existence. Furthermore, Alberto Breccia's artwork is frequently praised for its technical brilliance, impressionistic style, and mesmerizing qualities, with some reviewers finding it striking and capably rendered.

Despite the compelling subject matter and artistic talent, the book faces substantial criticism regarding its execution and structure. A common complaint is the poor integration of text and art, with Oesterheld's writing often appearing as dense, lengthy blocks of prose that feel detached from Breccia's visuals. Reviewers describe the reading experience as disorienting, tiring, and frustrating, often likening it to an illustrated history report rather than a cohesive graphic narrative. There is a perceived lack of effective page design and sequential storytelling, with the artwork sometimes feeling like an afterthought or lacking dynamism. Some also found the black and white graphics drab and the text hard to read, and one reviewer specifically noted "bizarre misogynist commentary" within the writing.

Ultimately, this graphic biography is viewed as a mixed product with considerable unfulfilled potential. While it succeeds in offering a factual and informative account of Eva Perón, its structural and design shortcomings significantly detract from the overall reading experience. It may appeal most to readers with a strong existing interest in Eva Perón's history who prioritize detailed information over a traditional, fluid graphic novel format. It could also be of interest to dedicated collectors or scholars of Oesterheld and Breccia's work, though many reviewers suggest it is not their strongest collaboration and might not be suitable for those new to their bibliography.
