The reviews consistently praise the book for its profound emotional impact, with many readers describing being deeply moved, often to tears, or experiencing a strong sense of melancholy. The author's unique and authentic voice is frequently highlighted, making the poetry feel intimate and vivid. A significant strength repeatedly mentioned is the book's masterful construction and coherence; poems are intricately connected, creating a unified and cohesive work that reviewers felt compelled to read from cover to cover, sometimes multiple times. This deliberate structure, along with recurring motifs and themes, builds a powerful and impactful narrative. Readers were particularly captivated by the exploration of concepts such as memory, time, roots, cities as palimpsests, and the interplay between past and present, often transforming everyday experiences into something extraordinary, alongside reflections on personal relationships and life cycles.

While overwhelmingly positive, some reviewers noted that not every poem resonated with them equally, and there were occasional moments described as less engaging or even "tedious." A minor point of contention for some was the inclusion of numerous references, or "name dropping," which, while not bothering all readers, could potentially be a hurdle for those unfamiliar with the mentioned figures. Additionally, some reviewers found the rhythm of the writing challenging to follow at times. One nuanced observation was that while the book as a whole is exceptional, it might not contain the absolute "best poems" they had ever read, suggesting its strength lies more in the cumulative effect of the collection rather than isolated pieces.

Overall, the book is lauded as an impressive and deeply affecting work of poetry, offering an immersive journey that many found to be brilliant and unforgettable. It is particularly recommended for readers who appreciate a meticulously constructed poetic collection where individual pieces contribute to a larger, interwoven experience. Those who enjoy emotional depth, reflective themes of memory, time, and personal connections, and a distinctive, authentic authorial voice will likely find this book profoundly rewarding. It would especially appeal to existing fans of the author's previous works, as it builds upon and continues her celebrated style of engaging with landscape, language, and the future, inviting multiple readings for full appreciation.
