George Michael. La Biografia

Reviewers widely praise the book for providing a comprehensive and well-researched overview of George Michael's life and musical career. Many found it an enjoyable and easy read, appreciating the detailed yet accessible narrative that covers his journey from his early days with Wham! to his celebrated solo career. The biography is commended for its balanced approach, presenting both his successes and struggles with a neutral tone and without overt bias. Fans particularly enjoyed how the book brings George Michael back to life, often incorporating his own words to offer an intimate and humanizing perspective on his artistry, personal challenges, and complex character. It is seen as a fitting tribute that honors his musical genius, songwriting talent, and enduring legacy, with some editions also including helpful discographies and videographies.

Despite its strengths, several reviewers expressed disappointment regarding the book's lack of new or deeper insights. Many long-time fans felt that the content largely regurgitated previously available information, offering few revelations or "inside" details, and that it lacked the depth of an "all-access" biography. Critics noted that the author did not appear to have direct involvement from George Michael or those close to him, resulting in a narrative that felt more like a collection of facts rather than a deeply personal account. Earlier editions, published in 2007, were also criticized for being incomplete, missing the final decade of the artist's life and consequently concluding on a potentially misleading high note. Additionally, a few readers found the writing style somewhat dry or distant, with some specific stylistic choices, like dictionary definitions at the start of chapters, being deemed unnecessary or distracting.

In conclusion, this biography serves as a solid and informative account of George Michael's life, particularly suited for readers who are new to his story or those seeking a general overview of his career and personal journey. While it may not satisfy ardent fans looking for groundbreaking revelations or extensive emotional depth, it successfully captures the essence of his talent and humanity. It is recommended for anyone wishing to understand the artist beyond his public persona, appreciate his musical legacy, and gain a balanced perspective on the triumphs and struggles that shaped him. Readers desiring a more intimate, investigative, or comprehensive account covering his entire life may find it somewhat superficial or outdated depending on the edition.
