Jesus Calling, Textured Gray Leathersoft, with Full Scriptures

Many readers find this book to be a source of profound comfort, peace, and daily inspiration, particularly during challenging life circumstances. It is frequently described as an excellent devotional that helps individuals start their day, reflect on spiritual truths, and feel a closer connection to God. Reviewers appreciate its ability to provide timely guidance and a sense of intimacy with the divine, often describing the messages as speaking directly to their hearts. For many, it serves as a valuable supplement to their personal Bible reading, offering encouragement and a renewed sense of God's presence. Its accessible format makes it a staple for daily reflection, with many readers returning to it year after year.

Conversely, a significant number of reviewers express deep discomfort and concern regarding the book's central premise: the author writing her messages as if Jesus himself were speaking in the first person. This style is frequently criticized as presumptuous and disturbing, with some readers, including teenagers, finding it unsettling to attribute human-authored words directly to Christ. Critics argue that this approach implicitly or explicitly undermines the sole authority and sufficiency of the Bible, suggesting a search for revelation beyond what is already provided in Scripture. Theological concerns are also raised, with some reviewers identifying what they perceive as subtle errors, misinterpretations of biblical teachings, or an elevation of meditative practices that some feel deviate from traditional Christian understanding. Some even liken the method of composition to New Age practices, raising questions about the source of the messages.

In conclusion, this book elicits strong, polarized reactions among readers. Those who find solace and a deepened sense of God's presence through its direct, comforting messages tend to embrace it as a cherished devotional that fosters personal spiritual growth. They often value its ability to make their faith feel more immediate and real. However, readers with a strong emphasis on the absolute sufficiency and inerrancy of Scripture, and those wary of human authors speaking directly in the voice of a divine figure, are likely to find the book problematic or even spiritually misleading. Therefore, it is best suited for individuals seeking a highly personal and emotionally resonant daily devotional experience, who are comfortable with its unique narrative style. Conversely, it may not appeal to those who prioritize rigorous theological adherence to biblical literalism in devotional material or who prefer a more traditional approach to spiritual guidance.
