Le donjon rouge

Winter had lingered for the longest summer in memory, but now its chill breath began to stir across the lands of Westeros, a foreboding whisper of what was to come. In the far north, at the ancient castle of Winterfell, Lord Eddard Stark, Warden of the North, lived a life of honor and duty, raising his children in the stern but loving traditions of his house. His quiet existence was shattered when King Robert Baratheon, a boisterous figure of fading glory and Eddard's old friend, rode north with his queen, Cersei Lannister, and their lavish retinue. Robert came bearing a heavy request: to name Ned the Hand of the King, following the suspicious death of the previous Hand, Jon Arryn.

Reluctantly, Ned accepted, driven by a sense of loyalty and a growing suspicion that Jon Arryn had been murdered. Before he could even depart, a dark shadow fell upon Winterfell. His young son, Bran, an adventurous climber, witnessed Queen Cersei and her twin brother, Jaime Lannister, in an illicit embrace. Jaime, the Kingslayer, pushed Bran from the tower window, leaving him broken and comatose, a fall everyone believed to be a tragic accident. As Ned journeyed south to the opulent, corrupt capital of King's Landing with his daughters, the spirited Arya and the proper Sansa, the threads of conspiracy began to tighten around him. His wife, Catelyn, received a cryptic message from her sister, Lysa Arryn, explicitly accusing the Lannisters of Jon Arryn's murder, confirming Ned's deepest fears.

Meanwhile, far across the Narrow Sea on the continent of Essos, the last vestiges of the deposed Targaryen dynasty clung to a desperate hope. Daenerys, a young, timid princess, was sold by her ambitious, cruel brother Viserys into marriage with Khal Drogo, the powerful warlord of the nomadic Dothraki. Viserys yearned for Drogo's army to reclaim the Iron Throne, a dream that quickly soured as Daenerys, initially terrified, began to find her own strength among the horse-lords, earning the respect of her new people. She received three petrified dragon eggs as a wedding gift, relics of a bygone age.

Back in Westeros, at the colossal ice barrier known as the Wall, Ned's bastard son, Jon Snow, foreswore family and title to join the Night's Watch. This ancient order, once a proud shield against the wildlings and the supernatural horrors beyond, had fallen into disrepair, its ranks filled with criminals and outcasts. Yet, reports of ancient, terrifying creatures - the White Walkers and their undead wights - were growing, hinting at a threat far greater than any human conflict. Jon found camaraderie with the timid Samwell Tarly and faced the harsh realities of a forgotten war.

In King's Landing, Ned, an honorable man in a den of vipers, struggled to navigate the treacherous political landscape. He tirelessly investigated Jon Arryn's death, uncovering a shocking truth about King Robert's children that threatened to shatter the realm. His integrity clashed with the ruthless machinations of figures like Littlefinger and Varys, and the open hostility of Queen Cersei and her family. When King Robert died suddenly, seemingly in a hunting accident, Ned attempted to secure the throne for Robert's rightful heir, only to be betrayed by those he trusted.

Ned was arrested for treason, his daughters caught in the capital's deadly snare. Arya, resourceful and fierce, managed to escape, while Sansa remained a hostage, betrothed to the sadistic Prince Joffrey, who was crowned king. In a shocking public display, Joffrey, despite an initial promise of mercy, ordered Ned Stark's execution, a brutal act that plunged the Seven Kingdoms into chaos and ignited a brutal war.

The news of his father's death reached Robb Stark in the North, who, enraged, raised his banners and declared himself King in the North, launching the War of the Five Kings. Meanwhile, across the Narrow Sea, Daenerys faced her own crushing losses. Khal Drogo succumbed to a festering wound, and his khalasar disbanded. In a desperate act of grief and defiance, she stepped onto Drogo's funeral pyre, carrying her dragon eggs. From the ashes, she emerged miraculously unharmed, with three living, breathing dragons clinging to her, a fiery rebirth that heralded the return of magic and a new, formidable claimant to the Iron Throne.
