Les Menteuses, Tome 2

Readers generally found this installment to be a fun, addictive, and entertaining read, with many praising its ability to keep them guessing through an intriguing central mystery. The fast-paced narrative and engrossing drama proved compelling for many, drawing them into the story despite its flaws. Some reviewers noted an improvement in the writing from the previous book, appreciating the story's capacity to address relatable themes such as relationships, family dynamics, and personal identity. The overall plot is often described as captivating, making it difficult for readers to put down.

Conversely, many reviews highlight significant drawbacks, particularly concerning the character development and narrative execution. The main characters are frequently described as self-obsessed, shallow, and at times, unlikeable, making questionable decisions and often lacking distinct voices. Critics also pointed to the writing style, which some found juvenile, with cringeworthy dialogue and an overemphasis on superficial details like brand names. The plot was occasionally criticized for feeling disjointed, with characters rarely communicating their secrets or interacting meaningfully, leading to a perceived lack of forward momentum. Additionally, the portrayal of adults and some societal issues within the story drew negative comments, with certain aspects deemed unrealistic or problematic. Some readers also found the resolution of a previously established mystery to be underwhelming, while other plotlines felt like filler.

Ultimately, this book often falls into the category of a "guilty pleasure" read, functioning as a high-drama young adult mystery. While not universally acclaimed for its literary merit, it consistently manages to hold readers' interest, prompting many to continue with the series despite their reservations. It is best suited for teenage readers or those who enjoy fast-paced, drama-filled narratives focused on high school intrigue and secrets, especially if they appreciate a story that keeps them hooked even amidst acknowledged flaws. Readers familiar with the TV series adaptation may find the book offers a notably different experience.
