London Bridges A Novel

Readers generally found this installment to be a fast-paced and action-packed thriller, delivering a high level of suspense and excitement. Many appreciated the global scale of the plot, which kept them on the edge of their seats with its over-the-top mayhem and heart-racing chase sequences. The book's signature short chapters contributed to its compulsive readability, making it an entertaining read for those in the mood for a quick, thrilling escape. The return of familiar antagonists added to the sense of an ongoing saga for some long-time fans of the series, and the twists and turns were enjoyed by many.

Conversely, a significant number of readers expressed disappointment, citing a lack of depth and realism in the story. Criticisms included an implausible and at times repetitive plot, with too many characters making it hard to follow. Many found the primary antagonists to lack personality or compelling motivation, making them difficult to truly care about. The ending was frequently described as weak, anticlimactic, or rushed, failing to provide a satisfying conclusion after a suspenseful build-up. Some also felt that the protagonist's personal life felt stilted or inconsistent, and that his role in the investigation was less central than in previous books.

Despite these criticisms, the book's rapid pace and high-octane action kept many readers engaged, even those who acknowledged its flaws. While it may not be considered high literature or a standout entry for every fan, it serves as a quintessential James Patterson thriller. This novel is best suited for readers who prioritize a quick, exciting read over intricate plots, deep character development, or strict realism, and for those who are already invested in the Alex Cross series and appreciate its signature style. Many readers indicated they would continue with the series despite their mixed feelings about this particular installment.
