Lula

Readers widely praise the book for its captivating and dynamic writing style, with many describing it as an electrifying and fluid read. The author's unique non-linear narrative, which often jumps between recent pivotal events and earlier life experiences, is frequently highlighted as innovative and effective in maintaining reader engagement. Reviewers commend the extensive research and the multitude of sources, which bring to light many previously unknown details and anecdotes about the subject's life. The book is seen as providing valuable context for understanding contemporary Brazilian politics and the evolution of labor movements, making it particularly insightful for those who may not have lived through certain historical periods. Many found the narrative deeply emotional and thought-provoking, appreciating how it illuminates the subject's resilience, strategic acumen, and significant impact on the country.

Despite the widespread acclaim, several reviewers point out significant criticisms regarding the book's objectivity and presentation. A recurring concern is the perceived bias and overly admiring tone of the author, with some describing it as "chapa-branca" or panfletary, suggesting a lack of critical distance from the subject. This perceived partiality leads to a feeling that certain controversial episodes are either omitted or not sufficiently detailed, and that alternative perspectives or a deeper critical analysis are missing. Some readers also noted a lack of depth in certain biographical sections, particularly regarding the subject's early life or family relationships, contrasting with the detailed accounts of other periods. Additionally, criticisms were leveled at the book's editing and organization, with mentions of repetitive information, names introduced without context, inconsistent diagramming, and poorly integrated photographs, leading to a somewhat disjointed reading experience for some.

Overall, the book is considered a significant and impactful biography of a prominent figure in Brazilian politics. While its strong narrative and rich detail are widely appreciated, potential readers should be aware of the author's clear admiration for the subject, which influences the perspective presented. This book would particularly appeal to readers who admire the subject and his political trajectory, those interested in understanding the historical context of Brazil's labor movements and democratic struggles, and individuals seeking a counter-narrative to mainstream media portrayals. Conversely, those looking for a strictly impartial, chronologically linear, or highly critical account might find aspects of the book less satisfying. Despite its flaws, it is generally recommended as an essential read for anyone wishing to delve into the life and influence of one of Brazil's most iconic leaders.
