Mindful Parenting for ADHD

"Mindful Parenting for ADHD" is widely praised by many readers as a deeply insightful and transformative resource for parents of children with ADHD and high-functioning autism. Reviewers frequently highlight the book's ability to go beyond typical mindfulness instruction, offering unique wisdom and a profound understanding of both children and parents affected by ADHD. Many found it validating, empathetic, and encouraging, providing practical strategies for improving communication, maintaining calm, and cultivating a positive family environment. The advice is often described as easy to understand, actionable, and capable of fostering hope, with some readers reporting significant positive changes in their family lives and a better understanding of their child's condition.

However, some readers expressed reservations and areas for improvement. Criticisms include a perceived lack of positive reassurance regarding children with ADHD and insufficient emphasis on self-care for parents. Several reviewers desired more concrete examples, detailed meditation exercises, or specific guidance on physical activities beneficial for ADHD. The book's workbook sections were sometimes found to be too brief or generic, lacking sufficient elaboration or practical working examples. There were also mixed messages regarding the intended audience, particularly in chapters focused on school, which some experienced parents found too basic, while others felt they lacked depth for those starting at ground zero. Some noted that much of the parenting advice could be applied to any child, regardless of disability.

In summary, "Mindful Parenting for ADHD" is generally considered a valuable guide that effectively merges mindfulness with practical parenting strategies. It is particularly recommended for parents who are new to understanding ADHD, those seeking a foundational overview, or individuals looking to cultivate a more accepting and peaceful family dynamic. While those already well-versed in mindfulness or gentle parenting might find some concepts familiar, the book serves as an excellent starting point for many, encouraging acceptance over "fixing" and providing a framework for managing executive functioning challenges. It aims to empower parents to adjust their approach and foster a positive perspective for the benefit of their entire family.
