Noticias secretas de America (Cronicas de America, 63) (Spanish Edition)

This book is highly praised for its extensive and detailed examination of colonial Spanish governance in parts of Central and South America. It serves as a comprehensive historical account, meticulously detailing the shortcomings of the colonial Peruvian government, including the abuses faced by Native Americans and issues within the naval fleet. The work is noted for its informative nature and its ability to dissect various aspects of the period with considerable depth, with different sections being largely self-contained.

However, the review indicates that the book’s substantial length and detailed nature can make it a challenging read for some. It is described as less than engaging for a general audience, suggesting it may not be suitable for those seeking a light or easily digestible historical narrative. The structure, while allowing for discrete sections, implies it is not designed for a continuous, cover-to-cover reading experience for all.

In conclusion, this work stands out as an invaluable resource for its historical insights and detailed critique of colonial administration. While it may not appeal to readers looking for an engaging narrative, it is highly recommended for researchers or individuals with a specific interest in the historical period or particular topics covered. Its strength lies in its meticulous documentation, making it an essential reference for those delving into the complexities of colonial Spanish governance.
