Among these young, often hardened souls, is Lorian, a boy whose rebellious spirit speaks of a deep weariness with the system's cruelties and the endless horrors of their era.

The year is 1942, a time etched in memory with fear and brutality. It is the year when Jewish families are torn from their homes, their lives extinguished with ruthless efficiency. Hanna lives in dread, fearing she might share their tragic fate. This period is haunted by the real-life tragedy of the Struma, a vessel that set sail from Constanța carrying nearly eight hundred Romanian Jews, all dreaming of a safer life in Palestine. But the ship, caught in the vice of political tensions, was held for ten agonizing weeks in Istanbul before being towed out to sea and torpedoed, leaving only a single survivor.

Though the story is not solely about the Struma, its shadow looms large, a stark reminder of the indiscriminate cruelty that defined those years. Hanna's personal journey, her struggles and her loves, become inextricably linked with this broader historical canvas.
