On peut se remettre de tout, même de son enfance

The book "Good Morning, Monster" is widely praised for its unique structure, presenting five compelling case studies of patients' journeys through psychotherapy from beginning to end. Readers appreciated the author, Catherine Gildiner, for her candidness in sharing both her successes and mistakes, offering an honest look at the therapeutic process. Many found the book to be deeply insightful and educational, providing a fascinating glimpse into the human mind, the impact of childhood experiences, and the mechanisms of psychological growth. The stories are often described as inspirational and hopeful, highlighting the remarkable resilience of individuals who overcome immense adversity and trauma. For those who enjoyed "Maybe You Should Talk to Someone," this book is frequently recommended as a similar, albeit more serious, exploration of therapy, with many finding it engaging and compulsively readable.

Despite its strengths, the book draws significant criticism, primarily concerning its detailed portrayal of patient traumas. Many reviewers found the descriptions of abuse and neglect to be excessively graphic, exploitative, and bordering on "trauma porn," leading to discomfort and a feeling of "rubbernecking" at others' suffering. Ethical concerns were also frequently raised, with some questioning the author's process for obtaining patient consent and ensuring anonymity. Specific instances of the therapist's conduct were criticized as insensitive, unprofessional, or dismissive, including comments made to patients and the handling of certain emotional situations. Additionally, the book received strong negative feedback for its problematic portrayals of marginalized groups, with reviewers citing issues such as transphobic language, stereotypes, and misinformation regarding certain psychological conditions. Some readers also found the overarching "hero" theme to be overdone or even distasteful, feeling it glorified trauma or created an unrealistic perspective on recovery.

"Good Morning, Monster" is a book that evokes strong and often conflicting reactions. While it offers valuable insights into the power of psychotherapy and the human capacity for healing, its approach to detailing traumatic experiences and certain ethical considerations have made it a polarizing read. The book would likely appeal to readers with a strong interest in psychology, mental health, and true stories of overcoming adversity, particularly those who appreciate a therapist's perspective on patient journeys. However, potential readers should be aware that the content can be emotionally taxing and contains extensive descriptions of severe trauma. It is not recommended for those sensitive to graphic accounts of abuse or those seeking a less controversial or more clinically nuanced exploration of therapy.
