And then, the very security of the nation was threatened when the British Prime Minister was kidnapped en route to a secret meeting in Versailles, a crucial gathering that aimed to end World War I. Poirot, alone among the frantic search parties, discerned the true timeline and location of the abduction, racing against time to rescue the dignitary and prevent a global catastrophe.
The enigmatic disappearance of Mr. Davenheim, a wealthy banker, sparked a wager for Poirot – to solve the case within a week without leaving his armchair. As Scotland Yard grappled with the vanished man and his subsequently bankrupt bank, Poirot, from the comfort of his home, pieced together the fragments of evidence. He unmasked Davenheim's elaborate scheme to stage his own disappearance and robbery, a deception born of desperation and a desire to escape financial ruin.
Finally, a strange post-mortem ultimatum from a recently deceased uncle challenged Miss Violet Marsh: she must inhabit his old country manor for a month and "prove her wits" to inherit his fortune, or it would all go to charity. It was a peculiar test, a final jest from the grave, but with Poirot's guidance, the missing will was unearthed, proving that intellect and careful observation, even in the face of eccentric demands, always prevailed.
