Pollyanna: By Eleanor H. Porter : Illustrated & Unabridged

The reviews for this book overwhelmingly praise its central theme of optimism and the "Glad Game," which encourages finding something positive in every situation. Many readers highlight the profound and lasting impact the story has had on their lives, fostering resilience, a positive mental outlook, and a deep sense of gratitude. The book is frequently described as heartwarming, uplifting, and a source of sunshine, capable of inspiring both children and adults. Pollyanna herself is celebrated as an adorable, funny, and influential character whose unwavering spirit helps transform those around her, making the story a cherished classic that families enjoy sharing across generations.

However, some readers noted a few areas for improvement. A common point of discussion revolved around the various versions of the book, with some abridged editions being perceived as overly simplified or "too edited," leading to a desire for the more detailed original. Conversely, the unabridged version was occasionally mentioned as having older language or redundant details that might be tedious for younger readers. A few reviews also suggested that the moral message, while valuable, could sometimes feel overly didactic or repetitive, and that some supporting characters might lack depth, appearing somewhat two-dimensional.

Overall, the book is considered a beloved classic with a timeless and powerful message. It is highly recommended for readers of all ages who are seeking an uplifting and heartwarming story that champions optimism, resilience, and empathy. This book is particularly well-suited for those who appreciate narratives that encourage finding joy and possibility even in challenging circumstances, offering a refreshing and positive perspective.
