Readers generally found this installment to be a thrilling and captivating read, with many appreciating the continued intriguing plot and unexpected twists. Some reviewers noted an improvement in the writing style compared to earlier books, and a sense that characters began to develop more depth towards the end. The book is praised for its fast pace and well-thought-out plot, successfully drawing readers in and keeping them on the edge of their seats. Many found the atmosphere intense, with the secrets unveiled adding to the overall excitement. The conclusion of this initial story arc was a significant draw, with some finding the revelations surprising and satisfying, even for those familiar with the television adaptation.

Despite the positive aspects, several reviewers felt the book was too long and occasionally boring, with some expressing disappointment that key revelations lacked the dramatic impact they anticipated. A common criticism was the perceived lack of character growth, with some protagonists described as annoying or stagnant, and the relationships between the main characters often feeling disconnected due to their separate storylines. Reviewers also pointed out instances where events seemed forced for dramatic effect, leading to a lack of narrative sense or logical consequences. The plot was sometimes criticized for rehashing previously established information, particularly in the earlier sections, which contributed to a feeling of slow momentum and a dull reading experience for some.

This book serves as a pivotal point, concluding the first major mystery arc of the series and offering significant revelations that tie up many initial loose ends. While providing a sense of closure for this particular storyline, it also strategically sets the stage for future installments by hinting at new mysteries to come. It is highly recommended for existing fans of the series who enjoy a blend of high-stakes drama, suspense, and intricate secrets. Readers who appreciate a fast-paced, addictive mystery centered around the lives of interconnected characters, particularly mature teens (16+) who enjoy a "soap-opera-y" style, will likely find this book engaging, especially those curious to see how the book series diverges from its television adaptation.
