Python précis et concis

Many readers praise this book as a highly useful and handy reference, often described as a pocket-sized companion for Python programmers. It's valued for its ability to condense essential information, stripping down official documentation to its core elements and thus avoiding unnecessary detail. Reviewers appreciate its utility for quickly confirming syntax, looking up language oddities, and refreshing knowledge on specific constructs. For those with existing programming experience, it serves as an efficient way to quickly grasp Python's features. Its uncluttered format and chapter structure are also noted as positives by some, making it a convenient resource to keep on hand, particularly for offline use.

Despite its strengths, several criticisms emerge regarding the book's presentation and currency. A significant drawback is its outdated content, as it only covers up to Python 3.4 and is not current with the latest versions. The book's attempt to address both Python 2.x and 3.x simultaneously sometimes results in a fragmented presentation, which some readers found confusing. Explanations can be abstract, making it difficult for concrete thinkers to follow, and the formatting of examples is occasionally unhelpful. Furthermore, readers found the page layout poor and headings weak, hindering the ease of finding specific information, which is crucial for a reference book. Some also felt that fundamental topics like overall program structure were placed too late in the book.

In conclusion, this book is primarily seen as a valuable quick reference guide rather than a comprehensive learning resource. It excels as a desk companion for programmers who need to quickly look up syntax or refresh their memory on Python specifics while coding. It is particularly recommended for experienced programmers or those with a general programming background who want a concise overview of Python's features or a handy tool for quick doubts. However, it is generally not recommended as a primary resource for beginners learning Python from scratch due to its abstract explanations and organizational challenges. Its outdated content also means users should be aware of potential discrepancies with newer Python versions.
