Rubí / Ruby Red (Spanish Edition)

This book is widely praised by many readers for its engaging and entertaining qualities, often described as fun, witty, clever, and fast-paced. Reviewers frequently highlight the unique and well-conceived time-travel element, which provides exciting situations and a compelling mystery. The characters are a strong point for many, particularly the protagonist Gwen, her supportive best friend Leslie, and the developing "enemies to lovers" dynamic with Gideon, which is found to be full of chemistry and humorous banter. The setting, often featuring historical London, is appreciated for adding depth to the adventure, suspense, and action. Many also commend the author's humor, noting numerous laugh-out-loud moments, and several readers found the book so captivating they reread it multiple times or finished it in a single sitting, eager for the sequels. The quality of the English translation also received positive remarks.

However, several reviewers found the book to be immature, with the protagonist, despite being 16, often behaving like a much younger pre-teen or middle schooler. The plot is criticized by some for being slow, confusing, and lacking significant action for extended periods, leading to an abrupt and unsatisfying ending that feels more like a prologue. Some characters, especially the male lead Gideon, are described as flat, unoriginal, arrogant, or chauvinistic, making it difficult for certain readers to connect with them. The time travel mechanics are sometimes deemed oversimplified, illogical, or full of plot holes, with the overall purpose of the time travel unclear or pointless to a few. Other criticisms include simplistic writing style, predictable plot points, and the presence of problematic elements such as fat-shaming and outdated gender roles.

Despite these criticisms, a large number of readers found the book highly enjoyable and addictive, often describing it as a "fun ride" that leaves them desperately wanting to read the next installment. It is frequently recommended as light, humorous entertainment and an ultimate comfort read. The book appears to particularly resonate with younger readers, especially pre-teens and teen girls, who appreciate a mix of adventure, mystery, and romance. It is also suggested for those who enjoy time-travel stories within the Young Adult genre, and fans of similar series that blend fantasy, adventure, and light romance.
