STRANGE THE DREAMER

Reviewers widely praise Strange the Dreamer for its extraordinary literary artistry, frequently describing the prose as lyrical, poetic, and stunningly beautiful. The author's unique and imaginative world-building is highlighted as astonishingly detailed and immersive, creating a magical, dreamy atmosphere that transports readers. Many found the characters to be deeply empathetic, lovable, and well-crafted, particularly the protagonists, whose journeys are filled with hope, persistence, and unconditional love. The plot is commended for being unique, engaging, and full of surprising mysteries and twists, while a significant number of readers also enjoyed the strong, sweet, and emotionally invested central romance. The book is often cited as a reminder of the joy of reading, leaving many with a profound sense of wonder and bliss.

However, some readers expressed reservations, primarily regarding the book's pacing. A notable number found the first half, or even up to 70-80% of the story, to be slow, with some describing it as having unnecessary filler or being difficult to get into initially due to its detailed and multifaceted descriptions. The romance also proved divisive; while many appreciated it, others criticized it as "insta-love" or overly emphasized, feeling it developed too quickly or was "too much mushy stuff" for a fantasy novel. A few reviewers also found the lyrical prose, while generally admired, to occasionally be strained or contribute to confusion in the early chapters. Additionally, some felt the plot didn't fully ignite until later in the book, and the ending, as the first in a duology, concluded on a cliffhanger that left some desiring a more immediate resolution.

Despite these varying opinions, Strange the Dreamer is overwhelmingly regarded as a highly acclaimed and unforgettable fantasy experience. It is frequently hailed as a masterpiece and a truly unique entry in the genre. This book is particularly recommended for readers who appreciate lush, poetic writing, intricate and imaginative world-building, and deeply emotional character-driven narratives. It will appeal to those who enjoy stories brimming with wonder, mystery, and a significant romance, and who are patient with a descriptive, slower-burning narrative. Fans of the author's previous works, especially her characteristic style and themes, are highly likely to find this duology opener captivating and rewarding.
