Reviewers frequently praise the book as a highly entertaining and comforting read, perfect for de-stressing or when seeking an absorbing and fun story. Many highlight the author's signature witty, comedic, and engaging writing style, which some find makes even challenging topics approachable. The novel is appreciated for its ability to blend humor with more serious themes, such as relationships, career-life balance, and personal struggles, often exploring these with wisdom and an easy-going narrative. Fans of the author commend her storytelling abilities, noting her knack for creating authentic settings, particularly the vibrant office environment, and her capacity to craft characters that, while sometimes polarizing, are often well-drawn and complex. The book is seen by some as a fresh and agile read, offering a package of fun and insights into women navigating significant life changes.

Conversely, a significant portion of the reviews points out several drawbacks. A recurring criticism is the perceived lack of character development, with some readers feeling that characters change drastically or superficially without adequate explanation or depth. This often led to characters being found unlikable, annoying, or one-dimensional, making it difficult for readers to connect with them. The book's length is frequently mentioned as an issue, with many finding it too long for a story that is described as a "slog" or slow to develop, particularly in the initial chapters. Pacing is also a concern, as some felt that very little happened for a large portion of the book, only for events to accelerate too quickly towards the end. A few reviewers also noted that certain aspects of the book felt dated.

Ultimately, the book appears to be a mixed bag, offering an entertaining and often humorous experience for certain readers while falling short for others. It is best suited for those seeking a light, undemanding comfort read rather than a deeply literary or character-driven novel. Fans of the author's previous works, particularly those who appreciate her distinctive blend of humor and exploration of women's lives and relationships, are likely to enjoy it. Readers who can overlook issues with pacing and character depth, and who are looking for a fun, engaging story set in a specific cultural and temporal context, will find this book a worthwhile diversion.
