The Inheritance Games

The book is widely praised by many readers as an addicting and unputdownable mystery that delivers a fast-paced and entertaining escape. Reviewers frequently highlight the engaging nature of the riddles, puzzles, and games woven into the plot, which keeps them guessing and eager to turn pages. The quick chapters are often cited as a major positive, contributing to the book's rapid readability and making it easy to fly through. The premise of a seemingly ordinary girl inheriting a billionaire's fortune is described as a satisfying and delightful wish-fulfillment narrative. Many found the main character, Avery, to be smart and likable, while the Hawthorne brothers are generally considered intriguing and handsome, adding to the allure of the story. The unexpected plot twists and a compelling cliffhanger at the end left many readers excited for the next installment.

Despite its strengths, the book also drew significant criticism from some readers. A common complaint revolved around the characters, with many finding them annoying, bland, or lacking sufficient depth and personality. Specific dialogue, particularly from one character, was frequently described as cringey or irritating. The plot, while initially promising, was sometimes deemed convoluted, dull, or failing to fully deliver on the intricate puzzles it advertised, leading to a predictable or underwhelming resolution for some. The romantic subplot, often involving a love triangle, was a point of contention; reviewers found it tedious, confusing, or lacking genuine chemistry, with some interactions feeling forced or illogical. The writing style was occasionally described as average or mediocre, and some felt the suspense was underdeveloped. Additionally, a few readers found the setting, though initially cool, to be underexplored, and the frequent references to a deceased ex-girlfriend became repetitive for others.

Ultimately, the reviews indicate a divisive reading experience, with some readers loving the book and others finding it a letdown. It is a fast-paced mystery centered around a rags-to-riches premise, filled with puzzles and family drama. The book is likely to appeal to young adult readers who enjoy engaging mysteries with a strong puzzle-solving element, appreciate quick pacing, and are open to a prominent romantic subplot involving intriguing, albeit sometimes polarizing, characters. Readers looking for a modern take on "Cinderella meets Knives Out" with plenty of twists and a dramatic setting would find this an enjoyable read. However, those seeking deep character development, highly complex literary prose, or a mystery with minimal romantic focus might find it less satisfying.
