Tick Tock

Published in 1864, this work provides a detailed scientific account of the province of Santander, now the region of Cantabria, in Spain. Authored by the mining engineer Amalio Maestre for the national statistics board, the book is a systematic effort to document the physical and geological landscape of the area. It presents a comprehensive survey of the region's natural features, from its geological formations and layers of terrain to its mountains and river systems, including the Besaya and Quiviesa.

The text serves as a methodical exploration of the province's natural resources and economic potential in the mid-19th century. It details the locations of mineral waters, identifies metallic minerals like calamine, and discusses the state of the mining industry, including export data. For anyone interested in the history of geology, the industrial development of Spain, or the specific natural history of Cantabria, this description offers a precise and foundational snapshot of the region as it was understood through the lens of 19th-century science.
