Lou Montgomery possesses a singing voice that captivates, yet the thought of performing fills her with dread. She finds herself overwhelmed by crowds, loud noises, and even simple gestures like high-fives, experiences that lead her to believe something is inherently wrong with her. Unbeknownst to Lou, these intense reactions are symptoms of an undiagnosed sensory processing disorder.

When a car crash separates Lou from her mother, she is sent to live with relatives in Nashville, a new city and a new private school. This unfamiliar world forces Lou to confront her anxieties and begin a journey of self-discovery. As she learns about her sensory processing disorder, she must navigate forming new friendships, understanding her family, and ultimately finding her own voice amidst the challenges.
