Vagina Revised and Updated

The book is praised by some readers for offering intriguing insights into female physiology, particularly the complex neural connections between the vagina and the brain, and the variability of women's sexual responses and orgasms. Many found the early chapters informative, highlighting aspects of female sexuality rarely discussed in mainstream education or media. Readers appreciated the book's attempt to connect sexual well-being with broader concepts of confidence, creativity, and empowerment, challenging prevailing sex-negative cultural attitudes. Its accessible writing style is noted as a positive, making complex biological and historical information approachable for a general audience. Additionally, some male readers and couples found the discussions on intimacy and the "Goddess Array" concept to be compelling, offering practical advice for deepening their relationships and enhancing sexual satisfaction. The book also provides historical context on how female sexuality has been perceived and medicalized over time.

Despite its intentions, the book faces substantial criticism, primarily for its scientific methodology and narrow perspective. Reviewers widely accuse the author of presenting flawed or pseudo-science, citing poor research, misinterpretation of data, reliance on anecdotes over rigorous studies, and a lack of understanding of basic scientific concepts. Many find the book's viewpoint to be highly privileged, heteronormative, and gender-essentialist, focusing almost exclusively on the experiences of white, middle-to-upper-class heterosexual cisgender women while largely ignoring or dismissing the experiences of lesbian, bisexual, transgender, single, or less privileged women. Critics also find the writing style self-indulgent, repetitive, and at times preachy, with a "new-age" tone and terminology that detracts from its credibility.

Overall, opinions on the book are deeply divided, with many readers expressing conflicted feelings, appreciating certain aspects while strongly criticizing others. It is generally not regarded as a reliable scientific text, despite its claims, but rather as a highly personal and opinionated exploration. The book may appeal to readers interested in the intersection of female sexuality, physiology, and well-being, particularly those open to exploring romanticized or "new-age" approaches to intimacy. It could also be of interest to individuals seeking a historical overview of female sexuality, or those who enjoy controversial reads that spark debate, provided they approach it with a critical eye and an understanding that it represents a very specific, limited perspective.
