They travel in RVs, hunting their victims, whom they call "Rubes," across America. As members of the True Knot begin to fall ill from a disease contracted from one of their victims, Rose becomes fixated on Abra, believing the girl's exceptionally strong steam holds the key to their survival and an end to their nomadic existence.
Abra, through her connection with Dan, witnesses the horrific ritual torture and murder of a young boy by the True Knot. Horrified and enraged, she reaches out to Dan for help, and he can no longer deny the call of his past or the responsibility his gift demands.
