Still Life

In the quiet, seemingly idyllic village of Three Pines, where crime is so rare it doesn't even have a police force, a beloved local artist is found dead in the woods on Thanksgiving morning. To the locals, Jane Neal's death by an arrow appears to be nothing more than a tragic hunting accident. But when Chief Inspector Armand Gamache of the Sûreté du Québec arrives, he senses a darker current running beneath the village's tranquil surface. He knows that evil often lurks behind the most peaceful of facades and that the key to this mystery lies hidden among the close-knit residents.

As Gamache and his team begin to investigate, they must peel back the layers of this charming community, exposing long-buried secrets, simmering resentments, and the complex relationships connecting everyone in Three Pines. The investigation becomes less about finding a random hunter and more about understanding the intricate and sometimes deceptive nature of the human heart. This is not just a search for a killer, but an exploration of a place where friendship and art coexist with jealousy and betrayal, and where the first step into a celebrated world of mystery begins.
