On the eve of the Civil War in 1861, sixteen-year-old Scarlett O'Hara reigned as the quintessential Southern belle at Tara, her family's sprawling Georgia plantation. Surrounded by admirers, her heart, however, belonged to Ashley Wilkes, the gentle, scholarly heir of the neighboring Twelve Oaks.
