A curious observation unfolds across various nations: a distinct correlation exists between religious affiliation and economic success. In societies with diverse Christian denominations, Protestants, particularly Calvinists, are often found disproportionately among business leaders, skilled laborers, and those accumulating significant capital, while Catholics tend to lag behind. This stratification suggests something more profound than mere historical circumstance; it hints at differing "mental characteristics" fostered by distinct belief systems.

The "spirit of capitalism" is not simply a boundless greed for wealth, which has existed across all epochs. Benjamin Franklin, with his maxims like "Time is money" and his exhortation to frugality and hard work as virtues, perfectly encapsulates this spirit.
